    We're happy to capture your family in our studio, complete with gorgeous light and minimal distractions, or in your comfy-cozy home full of familiar toys and routines. No matter where our session takes place, we'll delight in your delight. And we'll encourage you to pay attention to one another instead of the camera, because there's no 'add happy' button in Photoshop.

    We don't care whether you're barefoot or wearing fuzzy slippers, and we won't be sending over a twenty-page list of suggestions about what to wear. (We can make you look beautiful in sweat pants if you love each other.) We just want to capture your family. Your habits, your quirks, and your love. Die-hard beach goers? World travelers? Animal lovers? Trekkies? We wanna see it. And when you view the images we've created together for the first time, we want the depth of love you feel for your family to grab you by the collar and bring tears to your eyes.

NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY + MOSS = MESSY

Warning: if you are pregnant or may become pregnant, Essential Imagery has been known to cause cute-overload and excessive love of babies.  Today’s post is especially potent.

Mr. Maddox was born four weeks early.  As in, ‘Kristen, you can be at the birth on such and such date, right?’ ‘Yep!’ and then I get phone messages consisting of his gorgeous little face.  Since he was so excited to be here, I was crazy-excited to meet him…squidgy baby time is some of the best time on this planet.

If you’re thinking, ‘what the heck is that background?  Is that…MOSS!!??’  Why yes, yes it is.  I’m a sucker for thinking, ‘I’ve never seen anyone do *THAT* before’ and then doing it.  In this case, no one does moss because it isn’t as soft as you would imagine.  (Also, it may or may not have turned this poor baby’s legs green.  ::ahem::)

Luckily, Maddox had one moment of zen while resting in this heap of soft green earth…and it’s my favorite shot of the session.
