• You'd love to have a family portrait session that fully captures who you are, how you connect, and how much affection surfaces when all the members of your family are present within the camera frame.

We're happy to capture your family in our studio, complete with gorgeous light and minimal distractions, or in your comfy-cozy home full of familiar toys and routines. No matter where our session takes place, we'll delight in your delight. And we'll encourage you to pay attention to one another instead of the camera, because there's no 'add happy' button in Photoshop.

We don't care whether you're barefoot or wearing fuzzy slippers, and we won't be sending over a twenty-page list of suggestions about what to wear. (We can make you look beautiful in sweat pants if you love each other.) We just want to capture your family. Your habits, your quirks, and your love. And when you view the images we've created together for the first time, we want the depth of love you feel for your family to grab you by the collar and bring tears to your eyes.

The video below provides a peek at how portrait sessions unfold. If you have questions or would like to schedule a portrait session, click on the 'Contact' link above or call 215-206-3689. Oh -- and thanks for stopping by, lovely!

WEEKEND PROJECT: SUNPRINTS – simple photography project

It’s 3:11 p.m. on Friday, and I’ve *almost* finished my to-do list for the week!  To celebrate, a happy little project I’ve been meaning to post…sunprints!  These require no camera or film or batteries, just some objects, special sunpaper, and the sun.  You can pick up kits online, and I recently spotted the kit at Terrain locally.

When you’ve arranged your objects and exposed the paper to the sun, you get nifty little square prints like these.  Just rinse with water when the paper changes color.  So get out there, grab a kit, and make art with the sun, lovely people!

The left example is an old 120 film negative.  The example on the right comes with a confession at no extra charge:  I have an assortment of terrariums all over the house, and they exist solely to allow me to act out stories with model-railroad-sized people.  (Think 1.2″ tall figurines.)  Right now, there’s a murder mystery going on in the ivy, a shady deal going on behind the fern, and a goat guarding the moss.

I nabbed those little people from their homes for this sunprint, which ended up a lot like CSI: Railroad Figurines.  That wasn’t how it looked in my head, but I still dig it.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

LIAM, BALTIMORE, AND 35MM FILM – baltimore child photography

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!  I spent mine shored up with Sookie Stackhouse novels (you know, the books behind the HBO Series True Blood), visiting Terrain, and playing with friends.

Then I got to come into the loft to find my FILM ready for viewing!  Yay!  These were taken on a Nikon FM camera with a broken meter — so, relying on my eyes & expertise to get the correct exposure.

Liam heart heart HEARTed the dragon boats, and led us in rounds of ‘Yellow Submarine’ for the duration of our watery adventure.  It was rad.

BALTIMORE PORTRAITS (OR, LIAM ROCKS.)

Liam is a lovebug and a charmer.  Lovebug = hugs frequently and without prompting.  Big squeezie hugs that make your heart melt.  Charmer = the lady at the dragon boats gave him a dollar for being the cutest thing she’d seen all day.  He promptly used it to buy Ben & Jerry’s.

We played it super-casual, which meant: eating pizza, riding dragon boats, having some ice cream, and frolicking in the Inner Harbor.  This is tough work, but someone has to do it…

I heart heart heart these images — the atypical portrait wardrobe, the hugs and love and the way Liam knows he *owns* these two.  Shana has started training for marathons since the last time I saw her — insane!  Insanely awesome, too!

JACK ATTACK! – media family photography

It was so absolutely wonderful to hang with Jack, who turned his big blue eyes to me and immediately commenced being ridiculously cute.

We headed outside and, due to the 3,426% humidity level, decided to let Jack commandeer the hose.

It was totally worth it:

A little sprinkler-running-through-ness never hurt anyone, either…look at that giggle, and that tow-headed fuzzy goodness!

Yes, his eyes really are this gorgeous.  (Boys always *always* get the longest eyelashes and most sparkly eyes.  So jealous…..)

FILM HAS MY HEART – nikon 35mm photography

Things I know for certain: I will always love ice cream. Even when I am old & withered & lose my appetite for everything else.

I will never let my business take away my love of images. Once you find your passion, holding it close and nurturing your love of it is more important than making money from it.

Puddle

One of these days, I’ll be courageous enough to put digital down and never pick it up again. Yes yes yes, I can get it to look just the way I want it. Yes yes yes. But that doesn’t leave enough room for magic and serendipity.

And I will always, always leave room for magic and serendipity.

It's A Mystery
